The Economic Picture
About this picture.
An independent guide to Australia’s economy, using official published figures.
Who is behind it?
The Economic Picture is operated by Common Sense Money Pty Ltd, with Scott Phillips as publisher. It is not a government, ABS, OECD or World Bank publication. No endorsement by a data provider is implied.
We explain the questions behind the numbers and provide dates, definitions, source links and figures tables alongside the charts. Different measures cover different people, periods and parts of the economy.
The Inflation Picture and The Budget Picture are related standalone projects whose existing data and presentation contribute to the relevant sections here. This site identifies each source edition; new releases are checked before we update it.
Contact and corrections
Email hello@theeconomicpicture.com.au with questions, feedback or a possible error. For a correction, include the page, measure and period. Please avoid sending sensitive personal or financial information.
Your privacy
You can explore the figures without providing personal financial information or joining a mailing list. Vercel hosts this website and processes technical information needed to deliver and protect it.
Your choices in this browser
International comparison pages save country, year and view preferences in this browser’s local storage. Those choices can also appear in the page URL when you copy or share it. Clearing site data removes saved preferences. The spending-mix calculator keeps its edits on the page and resets when reloaded.
Hosting and security
Vercel hosts the site and processes technical information, including IP addresses, browser and device information and page requests, to deliver and protect it. Hosting and sign-in services may use necessary cookies. Technical information may be processed outside Australia. Authorised administrators can inspect operational records for troubleshooting. We do not treat a dashboard’s log-viewing window as a promise that all provider records have been deleted.

Email and subscriptions
If you contact us, we receive your address and the information you send so we can respond or investigate a correction. Correspondence may be retained as a record of the enquiry.
The Economic Picture has a separate mailing list. Joining requires confirmation; we do not add people from other lists. Resend delivers the emails and subscription records are stored separately in our Australian Supabase project. Address, consent, delivery and suppression records support confirmation, delivery and unsubscribe. The signup form shows whether subscriptions are currently open.
Confirmation links expire after 48 hours. You can unsubscribe using your personal email link, including when signup is closed. Read the email-update information.
For access, correction or deletion requests, contact hello@theeconomicpicture.com.au. We may need to retain limited records to honour an unsubscribe or resolve an enquiry.
