Total for June quarter 2026 · Covered industries
“Business profits” here means gross operating profits within the ABS survey’s coverage. These figures are before income tax and exclude selected items including interest and depreciation. They measure dollar profits at current prices, without adjusting for inflation.
An overall change can hide very different industry results. Mining profits are sensitive to commodity prices and can move differently from profits elsewhere. The national figure does not describe the experience of a typical business.

The company category includes quasi-corporations. The combined total also includes unincorporated businesses; it does not cover every business in Australia. Read the coverage notes.
Profits are one part of the income generated by production. Wage rates, national income and economic growth answer related questions, using different measures. A rise in profits alone does not show that wages were reduced, that margins rose or that profits caused inflation.
