About these comparisons
Monthly annual rates are published ABS figures. Quarterly annual inflation is calculated from published CPI indices for the same quarter a year earlier. Total price change compares index values at the selected dates; all lines start at zero on the same date.
Only dates available for every selected line are compared. Darwin’s quarterly index begins in September 1980, so its annual changes begin in September 1981. Monthly and quarterly histories remain separate. Index levels do not tell us which city is cheaper.
